Your problems won’t just fix themselves.
I was reminded of this over the last week having a lunch with a successful entrepreneur.
In business, if you can solve a problem for someone, you have the start of a great business.
As an individual, if you can identify your problems, or more simply, the symptoms that are causing these problems, you are well on your way to achieving what you want in life.
I see this with the Technology Company Executives we work with.
Years of tax returns not lodged, lack of understanding and planning around their employee share schemes (RSU and ESPP) and generally an under utilisation of their cash flow and wealth potential.
What happens is they never hit their truth wealth potential.
Its a shame, but it starts with understanding that you have a problem.
But at the same time, the problems you have won’t just solve themselves.
Identifying the issue and deciding to take action is one thing.
Thing is, I see it time and time again, people know they have a problem but won’t do anything about it until its too late.
Same thing with people’s health. You know you need to exercise more, eat better (and less) but you still don’t.
You can manage your tax and finances yourself. Just like you could build a new house for yourself.
It might not end very well though.
Why is this?
Are people stubborn?
Do we not trust anyone anymore?
Or is it complacency?
Do we have it too easy here in Australia? Are we too comfortable in the knowledge that even as a middle class worker, you will more than likely retire with close to $1M in super by age 60 and own your own home. This is not bad, but it could be so much better.
The end outcome for Executives who work in Technology companies could be so much more attractive as well as a far more enjoyable journey to get there.
Recently I met wit a new client. Successful, two kids, happy marriage, good job, nice starting base of assets. But he was unhappy in his work. However, he knew if he left he would be worse off financially, so he is staying.
Our work together will have a focus point to help him manage the transition from leaving his current work so he can be happy and know he won’t leave his family worse off.
That is taking action on your problems.
You cannot wish away your problems or hope they disappear.
Understand the symptoms that are causing your problems is the first step in taking control of your finances.
Your family will thank you for it.
